Run every weekend and many midweek dates, from early May to the end of September, the AIDA 1&2 star course is by far the most popular way to get in to freediving as it combines the 1st and 2nd levels of the AIDA educational ladder in a fun 2 day course. AIDA are the worlds foremost freediving educational body and have been developing the way we teach freediving since the 90s. This freediving course will make you a freediver in 2 days! Taught by world class freediving instructor and author Ian Donald and his team
By the end of the course you will have covered
Equipment for freediving.
Breathing for freediving.
Safety for freediving.
Efficiency of movement.
Static apnea training for breath-holds of over 2 minutes.
Using freediving equipment.
Deep dives to a minimum of 50ft (nearly 4 storeys deep)
Dynamic (distance) apnea of over 40m.
…We start the day with basic freediving theory and cover the aspects of correct breathing. We then go through a couple of hours of pool training, covering static breath holding, rescues and dynamic apnea. In the afternoon , we start our open water sessions. Here we focus on how to achieve perfect technique in the initial stages of a dive, such as duckdiving and shallow equalisation. Depth on the first day will be limited to about 7m. At Freedive UK we put a lot of effort in to training you to achieve perfect style, concentrating on efficiency of movement, form and comfort as our primary goal.
On your second day as a freediver you will learn how to dive to depth in open water. We will dive using dive lines and lanyards for your safety and will focus on deep diving posture and relaxation. We will conduct our deep dives from boat charter and deep quarry (boat in the morning and quarry in the afternoon), in order to give you the best quality instruction and the most exciting and varied diving on the day. As far as we are aware we are the only school in the country to offer both sea and quarry diving on a single course! After free immersion dives we focus on constant weight dives to complete the depth requirements for the course. The exam will be completed either at the end of day one or two… so be prepared and read your notes before attending.
